Reading Materials

Here I’m gonna share some reading materials that I dound helpful during the years I am working in BI and DW field. Hope they will help you, too.

Delivering Business Intelligence With SQL Server 2008

I remember when I first started to learn BI 3 years ago, I was looking for a book that can bring me up from the scratch. I spend 2 weekends in MPH to find the book that I can understand easily, which is not just a “Step-by-Step” book and follows a real story in building BI solutions.

I came across the book Delivering Business Intelligence With SQL Server 2005 when i was searching in my university (Multimedia University) library. It comes with so many practices along with the concepts and scenarios, which help you gain some development experience beside knowing the theoretical concepts.

You can also try its 2008 version, Delivering Business Intelligence With SQL Server 2008, which covers all the subjects and areas in 2005 version. Both of these books talk about almost all the subjects in SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.

Try any of these books. They will definitely help you learn and develop new skills in Business Intelligence development and design.

Learning Spark/Scala

If you’re looking for a good place to start learning Spark with Scala, I strongly suggest “Apache Spark 2.0 with Scala – Hands On with Big Data!” on Udemy:

https://www.udemy.com/apache-spark-with-scala-hands-on-with-big-data/learn/v4/overview

Instructor has done an amazing job taking students to all levels of important Spark features, and there is just the right amount of details to get everyone to the level that they can code in Scala on their own.
